Since SMBCD is a rom hack and not a computer game, emulator and hardware support is very important for a smooth and intended experience. Emulators that don't support MSU-1 at all will cause the MSU-1 Required screen to come up. If you're looking for SD Card support sheets for the FXPak Pro/SD2SNES, please check the SD2SNES Card List.

If you're using an emulator or hardware that isn't shown on the list below, feel free to submit it via the FamicomCD Discord, or by emailing at FamicomCD@gmail.com. This table doesn't work well on mobile in portrait mode; use landscape mode for a good experience. Also, please assume that all emulators mentioned are using the latest version, and that emulators not listed here are unsupported unless stated otherwise.

Hardware and Flashcarts
Hardware MSU-1 Icon Type Description Tested SMBCD Ver Tested By
SNES/SFC Yes Hardware Sometimes SMW hacks aren't compatible with hardware, so it's good to know it works here! Pre-Rel 13.029 FamicomCD
SuperNT Yes FPGA Hardware Work just like SNES/SFC, so SMBCD will run fine! SpeedrunComp 2.2 Bro3256
MiSTer Yes FPGA Hardware Work just like SNES/SFC, so SMBCD will run fine! SpeedrunComp 2.2 waluigi4smash2018 and VG Esoterica
SD2SNES/FXPak Pro Yes Flashcart The SD2SNES/FXPak Pro supports most enhancement chips including the MSU-1 chip! Pre-Rel 13.029 FamicomCD
Super EverDrive X6 No Flashcart The Super EverDrive X6 supports more chips than the X5 (only the DSP chips), but it unfortunately does not support MSU-1 like the FXPak Pro does. - -
Super EverDrive X5 No Flashcart The Super EverDrive X5 doesn't support any enhancement chips unlike the X6 and FXPak Pro. - -
Emulators
Emulator MSU-1 Platform Support Type Description Tested SMBCD Ver Tested By
BSNES/Ares/Higan Yes Flawless As expected, BSNES/Ares/Higan preforms all that is asked of it with no issues. Pre-Rel 13.028 FamicomCD
Mesen (v2.0.0+) Yes Flawless As expected, Mesen preforms all that is asked of it with no issues. Pre-Rel 13.007 FamicomCD
SNES9x (v1.55+) Yes Flawless As expected, SNES9x preforms all that is asked of it with little to no issues. Also, fair warning: MSU-1 support was added to SNES9x in version 1.55, so anything before v1.55 will not run SMBCD. Pre-Rel 13.028 FamicomCD
SNES/SFC Classic Yes Excellent Must be modded of course. Pre-Rel 13.028 FamicomCD
SNES9xGX/SNES9xTX Yes Excellent As expected from a port of SNES9x, SNES9xGX and SNES9xTX preform all that is asked of them with little to no issues. A few hiccups are present, but nothing that truly hinders gameplay. Pre-Rel 13.028 FamicomCD
SNES9x EX+ Yes Excellent As expected from a port of SNES9x, SNES9x EX+ preforms all that is asked of them with little to no issues. Pre-Rel 13.028 FamicomCD
Analogue Pocket No Excellent No support for MSU-1. If it had support for MSU-1, the game would run similar to SNES9x's support. SpeedrunComp 2.2 Bro3256
Delta No Excellent No support for MSU-1. Pre-Rel 13.034 FamicomCD
pSNES Console No Good Currently it doesn't support MSU-1, but apparently it used to support MSU-1. SpeedrunComp 2.2 Hatoving and Phil564
pSNES PC No Good I couldn't get MSU-1 to work for the PC version of pSNES, so I'm unsure if it works. Pre-Rel 13.029 FamicomCD
SNES9x 3DS (bubble2k16) No Okay Since the SNES9x 3DS port is based on version 1.43, it does not support MSU-1. Pre-Rel 13.029 FamicomCD
BlargSNES No Okay No support for MSU-1. Pre-Rel 13.029 FamicomCD
Sodium64 No Okay No support for MSU-1. Pre-Rel 13.029 FamicomCD
NO$SNS No Bad No support for MSU-1. Pre-Rel 13.028 FamicomCD
zSNES No Poor Since zSNES has not been updated since 2007, it lacks MSU-1, so you can't play SMBCD, and it's overall just an inaccurate emulator. Just go for SNES9x, or BSNES. Pre-Rel 13.007 FamicomCD
SnemulDS/lolSnes No Poor The DS is barely powerful enough to run SNES games, let alone MSU-1 games. Even if you somehow got past the MSU-1 error, there is no MODE 0 support, so it would be hard to play. Pre-Rel 13.028 FamicomCD
Bizhawk - - You must use the BSNES Core. - -
Retroarch/Libretro - Everything - Depends on what core you're using. Best bet is the BSNES core. If your Retroarch version doesn't have BSNES, you are unable to play. - -
